Helping ambitious students achieve Band 7+ through personalised IELTS coaching.
Whether you’re applying for university, professional registration, migration, or a visa, I provide personalised IELTS coaching designed to improve your score efficiently and confidently.
My Story
Hello, I’m Alex, founder of My IELTS Coach.
Originating from the UK, I specialise in helping IELTS candidates improve their IELTS skills and achieve the band scores they need for work, study, migration, and professional registration.
Over the years, I have worked with students from a wide range of backgrounds, including healthcare professionals, university applicants, skilled migrants, and international professionals preparing for life-changing opportunities abroad.
What I enjoy most about IELTS coaching is helping students turn uncertainty into confidence. Many learners come to me feeling frustrated by repeated test attempts or unsure why their score has plateaued. Through personalised feedback, targeted practice, and clear strategies, I help students identify exactly what is holding them back and how to improve.
Why I Started My IELTS Coach
When I first began teaching English, I quickly realised that many students were not struggling because they lacked the ability to achieve their target IELTS score. Instead, many were missing the structure, guidance and understanding of what actually creates meaningful improvement.
I met many hardworking students who had spent months preparing for IELTS, completed practice tests and studied independently, yet remained stuck at the same band score. They often knew they needed to improve, but they lacked awareness of what was holding them back, how to practise effectively and what steps were needed to move forward.
Over time, I discovered that the students who achieved the greatest improvements shared one important mindset: they understood that IELTS success is a partnership.
As an IELTS coach, my role is to provide the expertise, strategies, feedback and direction needed to help students improve. However, real progress happens when students actively participate in their own learning journey. Attending lessons alone is not enough — improvement comes from applying feedback, practising consistently, reflecting on mistakes and taking ownership of the process.
This is the culture I aim to create at My IELTS Coach: a collaborative coaching relationship where we share responsibility for progress. I provide the roadmap, guidance and support; students bring the commitment, effort and willingness to improve.
My coaching approach is built around five key pillars:
Accountability
Progress requires commitment. I help students stay focused, set clear goals and take responsibility for the actions needed outside of lessons.
Practice
IELTS improvement comes through deliberate and targeted practice. I guide students on what to practise, how to practise and how to apply feedback effectively.
Consistency
Significant improvement does not happen overnight. Consistent effort and regular practice are what turn small improvements into lasting results.
Awareness
Many students struggle because they do not understand why they are losing marks. I help students identify their weaknesses, understand IELTS requirements and recognise exactly what they need to improve.
Reflection
Every mistake is an opportunity to improve. Students learn to reflect on feedback, analyse their performance and adjust their approach to become more effective learners.
Through personalised coaching, expert feedback and a structured preparation plan, my goal is to give students the clarity, confidence and accountability they need to achieve their target IELTS score.
Whether you are preparing for university, skilled migration, professional registration or personal goals, My IELTS Coach provides the support and structure needed to transform preparation into progress.
The most rewarding part of my work is seeing students achieve results they once thought were out of reach — not only because of the coaching they receive, but because of the commitment and effort they invest throughout their journey.
What Makes My IELTS Coaching Different?
Personalised IELTS Coaching
No two students are the same, so no two coaching programmes should be either.
Every lesson is delivered personally by me and tailored to your current IELTS level, target band score, strengths, weaknesses and test date. From our first session, I assess your performance across all four IELTS skills—Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening—as well as the specific question types within each module. This allows me to identify exactly where you are losing marks and where your time will have the greatest impact.
Your learning journey is never fixed. As we work together, I continually adapt our coaching based on your progress, confidence and feedback. If a particular learning method, strategy or practice routine is delivering excellent results, we spend more time developing it. My goal is to create the most effective pathway for you, not simply follow a standard lesson plan.
Practical IELTS Strategies That Deliver
Success in IELTS isn’t just about improving your English—it is about understanding how the exam is designed and knowing how to perform under test conditions.
Having coached IELTS students for several years and taken the IELTS exam myself, I have developed a collection of practical techniques that consistently help students improve their scores. These strategies are incorporated into every lesson and then reinforced through targeted practice outside of sessions, allowing them to become natural habits rather than techniques you are trying to remember on test day.
Whether you are preparing for IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training, you’ll learn practical approaches that can immediately improve your performance across Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening.
Detailed Feedback Aligned with the IELTS Band Descriptors
One of the biggest reasons students remain stuck at the same IELTS band score is because they don’t fully understand why they are losing marks.
Throughout our coaching, every piece of feedback is closely aligned with the official IELTS assessment criteria. Rather than simply correcting mistakes, I explain exactly why an answer does not meet the band descriptors and what needs to change to reach the next band level.
Every lesson includes detailed error analysis, with your recurring mistakes identified, explained and tracked over time. This allows us to measure progress objectively, focus on recurring weaknesses and ensure that improvements are being maintained throughout your preparation.
Flexible Online IELTS Lessons
All coaching is delivered online via Google Meet, allowing students across Australia, the United Kingdom and around the world to access expert IELTS coaching wherever they are.
Lessons can be booked well in advance as part of your preparation plan or, where availability allows, arranged at shorter notice to accommodate changing schedules or upcoming IELTS test dates. This flexibility makes it easier to balance your IELTS preparation alongside work, university and family commitments.
Ongoing Support Between Lessons
Progress happens between coaching sessions—not just during them.
As we work together, we build a personalised library of learning resources, model answers, vocabulary, writing corrections and practice materials that you can continue using throughout your IELTS preparation.
I also check in regularly between lessons to monitor your progress, answer questions and help keep you accountable. If I notice that practice has become inconsistent or that the same mistakes continue to appear, I’ll tell you honestly. My role is not simply to deliver lessons, but to help you stay focused, overcome obstacles and continue moving towards your target IELTS band score.
International Experience with a Coaching Mindset
Before becoming an IELTS coach, I built my career working in business, marketing and client relationship management, where success depended on building trust, understanding people’s goals and providing clear, strategic advice.
That experience continues to shape how I coach today.
Rather than seeing myself as someone who simply teaches English, I see my role as a trusted coach and advisor. I work alongside each student to understand their individual circumstances, create a realistic preparation strategy and provide honest guidance throughout the entire learning journey.
Having lived and worked internationally while coaching students from a wide range of cultural and professional backgrounds has also given me a strong understanding of the challenges faced by people preparing for IELTS for university admission, skilled migration, professional registration and career progression. My aim is to provide not only expert IELTS preparation, but also the confidence, structure and accountability needed to achieve lasting results.
